Second Annual Holiday Mission - A SUCCESS!

TEAM BROTHER BEAR 2010 Annual Holiday Mission

Julia Taverner, Asst. Exexutive Director and Board Member, meets with staff from SickKidsFoundation and The Toronto Hospital for Sick Children.

Team Brother Bear continued our newest tradition by holding the Second Annual Holiday Mission. By collaborating with the amazing teams at the SickKids Foundation and Toronto Hospital for Sick Children, the team was able to help three families in need over the holiday season. The social work unit at the hospital referred these families and then as a team we were able to assess their needs and support them during the holiday season.

David Brownstone, Head of Social Work Unit at SickKids Hospital was responsible for working with the members of TBB to refer our 2010 recipients.

This projects main focus is to assist families in being able to concentrate on what matters most during the holidays – making new family memories and journeying alongside their sick child. By easing some of the financial burdens and unneeded stress of daily life, we were able to create a positive difference in the lives of these diagnosed children and their families.

We look forward to continuing this annual mission with the support of our donors and volunteers

The Board Members of the Team Brother Bear Foundation are proud to announce the launch of the 2nd Annual Holiday Mission.

This mission, which was started last year, is an event where Team Brother Bear partners up with the SickKids Foundation and Toronto Hospital for Sick Children to help families in need of support over the holiday season. Once referred by the Social Work Unit at the Hospital, the mission allows families to concentrate on what matters most, making holiday memories, while we create positive change for them in a time of need. This mission focuses on enhancing the quality of life of children and families currently battling brain tumours.

Point Park Students Hold Third Annual TBB Benefit Concert!

POINT PARK UNIVERSITY DANCE COUNCIL AND CAMPUS ACTIVITES BOARD PRESENT:

A BENEFIT FOR TEAM BROTHER BEAR

On Sunday November 7th, 2010 Point Park University staff and students came together to fundraise for TBB's mission by holding their THIRD ANNUAL BENEFIT CONCERT. The night included a silent auction, bake sales and a performance that included some of Pittsburgh's finest talent. All proceeds were donated to TBB.

Addison Brasil (above), Chair and Founder, was welcomed back as an Alumni Member to speak on Team Brother Bear's Behalf. The event was a great success and thanks to the Dance Council and Campus Activities Board at Point Park University.

Team Brother Bear is honoured that the Pittsburgh community has continued to show their support of our mission in memory of Austin Brasil.

Team Brother Bear Third Annual Gala Event: Following A Hero's Footsteps

Team Brother Bear would like to thank all of our amazing supporters for their contributions to our gala event. Our Third Annual Gala included dinner, live entertainment, dancing, speeches and an amazing silent auction. Guests had a wonderful time and all for a great cause.

The Staff of Team Brother Bear is ready for another successful fundraiser in memory of Austin Brasil. The signature "thumbs up" picture honors TBB's late President's positive attitude and great spirits during his battle with a brain tumour.

Team Brother Bear was honoured to have special guest speakers Dr. Uta Bartels, MD Haematology/Oncology, HSC (above) and David Brownstone, MSW, RSW, Head of Social Work, HSC (below) from Toronto Hospital for Sick Children speak about Brain Tumours and the importance of our fundraising goals.

Kimberley Brasil, Vice-Chair, accepts a plaque from the Sick Kids Foundation acknowledging Team Brother Bear for their fundraising efforts for children and families affected by brain tumours.

Following Tradition Team Brother Bear honored the Ayer Family of Toronto, Ontario as our Guests of Honour. Team Brother Bear was proud to honour and welcome another young hero to the family, featured above, as he bravely battles a brain tumour.

On April 17th 2010, The Dance and Theater Clubs from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA held a benefit concert featuring many talented performers in honour of our mission. The concert included a silent auction, a bake sale and an amazing show where all proceeds were donated to Team Brother Bear.

The amount of support from the University was overwhelming and both student-run organizations were successful in planning this great event. The show consisted of students who volunteered to choreograph, direct, sing, act and dance all for a great cause. Team Brother Bear is extremely thankful for this support.

"The amount of support that has been extended to myself, our family, Team Brother Bear and our mission is immeasurable- I am so grateful to attend a university that allows us to use our artistic talent to generate funds for children and families affected by brain tumours in my brother's honor." - Addison Brasil, Chair and Co-founder, was present to give a speech to the audience and help coordinate the event with his peers at the University.

Team Brother Bear Support in Pittsburgh

Team Brother would like to thank a local Pittsburgh non-profit organization, The Three10Moment, (www.three10moment.org) for their support of TBB at their recent show, Inertia, on Jan 30th, 2010. The Three10moment is an organization dedicated to its mission of exposing new and established talent to the local community by creating opportunities for students and professionals to work alongside one another. The show's full colour program featured a full page advertisement for the Team Brother Bear Foundation. The show also featured choreography by TBB Chair, Addison Brasil, a piece entitled Be-coming, which was choreographed in Memory of TBB Honorary President, Austin Brasil.

TBB Donates $35,000 to Children and Families Affected by Brain Tumours

Team Brother Bear is proud to announce their recent donation of $35,000 at Toronto Hospital for Sick Children on January 5th, 2010 in memory of Austin Brasil. The donation will be allocated through the SickKids Foundation to the b.r.a.i.n.child family fund and research funds. This donation was made possible by another amazing year filled with generous supporters and sponsors.

The family fund will continue to help families who are currently caring for a child with a brain tumor. The family funds helps families in need with many costs including funding treatments not covered by insurance, paying for needed medical supplies or equipment, transportation and much more. The money allocated to the research fund continues the groundbreaking research done each day and the search for curative treatments.

Team Brother Bear Holiday Mission Gift Delivery

On December 21st and 24th, Team Brother Bear Board Members; Julia Taverner, Jessica Brasil, Andrew Insanally and Addison Brasil delivered the Holiday Mission gifts to the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children where they were distributed to three families in need. Each family received a package that was specific to their needs and unique situations. It is our hope that this mission will make a positive difference in the lives of these families during the holiday season and make it easier for these families to concentrate on making memories and spending time with each other. We were only to happy to present these gifts at SickKids Hospital to these young heroes and their brave families.

Team Brother Bear is thankful for the help of the SickKids Foundation and the staff at Toronto Hospital for Sick Children for allowing us the opportunity to continue our mission in such an amazing way. Team Brother Bear is proud to announce the launch of our latest annual project: The Team Brother Bear Holiday Mission. With the help of the SickKids Foundation, The Toronto Hospital for Sick Children will be referring three families over the holiday season that are currently caring for a child with a brain tumour. This project will help these families in need to cover costs associated with journeying alongside their child and to make a positive difference in their lives during the holidays. Each family will recieve a package that will help to cut costs with groceries, household expenses, traveling and extended hospital stays. Team Brother Bear will also be helping these families make new memories together by making use of donated gift cards for dining and entertainment. The children of each family will receive gifts that are engaging, educational and exciting for the whole family. Stanley Cup Pictures Raise Money for TBB!

At St. Ignatius of Loyola Secondary School in Oakville, students were able to take a picture with the NHL Stanley Cup for a small donation to TBB. We are very grateful for Loyola's ongoing support of our mission and of Austin's memory. The students also held a dodgeball tournament earlier this year to raise funds for Team Brother Bear.

Point Park University's Campus Activities Board held their Annual Snowflake Charity Ball in Pittsburgh, PA where all proceeds were donated to Team Brother Bear.

This year's Charity Ball, held Dec. 3 aboard a Gateway Clipper riverboat, raised more than $1,300 for Team Brother Bear, an organization founded by Point Park student Addison Brasil who attended the event and made a speech to his peers about his brother's vision.

On August 8th, 2009 Team Brother Bear hosted an evening dedicated to the vision of Austin Brasil which featured dinner, dancing, live entertainment and a silent auction full of treasures. The night was a great success thanks to over 450 guests and the support of our sponsors and donors. The yearly fundraiser was a celebration of the team's first year of success and all the funds that have been raised in memory of Austin.

The event was held at Empire Banquet Halls in Toronto and featured Broadway Performer Adam Brazier, as well as many other talented performers. The night was a great success and Team Brother Bear was able to raise over $25,000 for children and families affected by brain tumours.

On July 12th 2oo9, Team Brother Bear presented a cheque of $15,000 to the b.r.a.i.n.child foundation at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. A little hair can make a HUGE difference.

After months of determination and patience, Wendy Medeiros finally had her hair long enough to give it to a greater cause. Medeiros cut off 9 inches of virgin hair at Evoke Salon in Toronto, Canada which she donated to the Pantene ProV Beautiful Lengths program on behalf of The Team Brother Bear Foundation. It is selfless acts like this that allow Team Brother Bear to remain inspired and constantly ready to fight for our mission.

During the Christmas season, the students of St Andrews Catholic Elementary School decided that rather then doing a Secret Santa, they would to give the money that would be spent on gifts and donate it to charity. The class voted on Team Brother Bear as their charity of choice. Bringing in over $300, Team Brother Bear is truly grateful for this generous donation.

B.R.A.I.N. Child Donation

On November 28th 2008, Team Brother Bear made their first donation of $15,000 to the B.R.A.I.N. Child Foundation. A percentage of their donation will go towards brain tumor research and the remainder will go towards b.r.a.i.n. child's family fund.

Representing Austin Brasil, Kimberley Brasil presented a cheque of $5000 to the B.R.A.I.N Child foundation. This money was raised by Austin earlier this year in hopes of giving others strength when standing up to cancer . This money is the motivation behind Team Brother Bear and is the continued inspiration of why we will continue to pursue this battle.

In October, Mother Teresa Elementary School re-routed their annual Terry Fox march so that the school could walk past the house of Team Brother Bear's Honorary President, Austin Brasil. BBQ / GARAGE SALE FUNDRAISER!

Currently we are taking the steps we need in order to become a registered charity and get this started, but to do so we need your help…

On Saturday July 19th 2008, Team Brother Bear will be hosting a community garage sale/BBQ in Oakville to make the funds needed to get our organization up and running. We are calling out to see if anyone is interested in donating… well, basically anything; Clothes, toys, furniture,

electronics, nik-naks, art, music, books…. Honestly, anything helps and everything is appreciated.

We will also be serving goodies so if you want to drop off any snacks or treats, that works too… seriously, ANYTHING goes. so start putting things aside, coz this is gonna make a big kinda difference.

All funds raised will be going towards the start-up costs for team brother bear and the first annual launch party/fundraiser that we are planning to have in august.

Team Brother Bear is a non-profit organization, dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of children who have been diagnosed with brain tumors, through fundraising for research, support for children as well as their families and by creating a community dedicated to positive change. Volunteers committed to fundraising and finding sponsorship will work together to help make the lives of diagnosed families easier and to find funds for research in this field of pediatric care.
